Letter Concerning Social Media and the Christian

This message is for you who call upon the Lord, for the saints of the Lord Jesus Christ, for the faint in heart and the compassionate one. You who are slow to anger and quick to forgive.  I am not writing to the general population of Facebook and other social media. Please by all means read but know my words are not directed at you.

Now we all know how harmful social media can be, although fundamentally useful and convenient, destructive at its core. The issue I am so inclined to pen is that of the Duggar family and their eldest son, Josh. All evidence as it appears is in no favor of the beloved Duggar family. Many say what hypocrites to call themselves Christians. They proclaim the message that sinning is wrong, yet they have a sinner among them.
Now to you Christian, let the world say all they want of this family for it is not our place. For I'm in no place to say whether this young mans actions were right or wrong. We all know that answer and I am not writing to argue that point.

I recall a similar time in our recent history of ten Christian Americans imprisoned on charges that were wrong and accounted for wrongly. Then while here on American soil  many Christians who knew them and those that did not, stood with the media calling them the same terrible names, without weighing in what actually happened.

We simply took the salt along with the icing. ( Or in other word: we took the sugar coated lies.)

But oh dear followers of Christ, let us not not do the same to this family and treat them in the same manner our media does. Yes, it is true that they may appear to be perfect and put together but we do not see the behind the scenes. I do not and cannot believe that they are a perfect family.

In the same light let take the homeschooling blogging mama, or the newlywed couple, or the typical church goer who all appear in photos as nothing but perfect and very well put together. Well, shame on you for not showing us all who you really are every hour of every day. For giving the world a picture of what your life really isn't and for not revealing yourself as a wreck. Do we not all see how destructive this can be to the body of Christ to call one another hypocrites. When we ourselves are no greater then they. Daily we are told to hide all and appear perfect. I am not saying we must reveal to the world our deepest sins. But lets be honest, who can really stand unblemished, unmarred by sin, and spotless as the Lamb of God? Not a single one of us. So before we cast the stone at the "hypocritical sinner"  let us proceed in caution and look upon ourselves to make sure we are an innocent sinner.

John 8:7 (ESV)

"And as they continued to ask him, he stood up and said to them,“Let him who is without sin among you be the first to throw a stone at her.”

They did not turn out all that great but here are some from our pit stop for lunch and a hike at Multnomah  Falls.

Well I suppose that is it. We are both loving and enjoying this married life. We long for a family and pray earnestly for one. In the meantime for are so thankful for the Lords provision in our lives and for allowing us to have so been treasured times.
